Recognising that love has withered away and the marriage is failing is one of the most devastating revelations that one can experience. A broken vow and relationship - beyond any redemption and salvage, is usually not a choice of anyone who seeks genuine partnership.

While many relationships can't be revived anymore if there's too much damage and neglect, it's a sign of an impending divorce. Divorce in Singapore costs a lot. However, establishing a peaceful settlement with a former partner is a preferred way to leave an expiring union. Nonetheless, it should be acted legally and in accordance with the country’s law. Here are signs/ grounds to consider divorce.

Adultery

Adultery is one of the grounds for divorce in Singapore. There should be a sexual relationship with a third party (at least in Singapore) to recognise as 'adultery'. Adultery may not be possible without physical intimacy involved, such as having sexual intercourse with an alleged third party. For adultery to be proved, you would, to some extent, may require a private investigator report. The evidence must otherwise state a clear written or recorded confession.

Desertion in marriage

Desertion can be painful. In Singapore at least, to be considered desertion, it should be on a continuous period of 2 years before a partner can start filing for divorce. Whether or not the situation is within contested or uncontested divorce in Singapore, no partner should ever desert or abandon their loved ones, let alone their partner for life.

Toxic and unreasonable behaviour

If the relationship is all about winning an argument, verbally abusing someone, being aggressive or violent are unreasonable behaviour. Unreasonable behaviour of a partner may also warrant divorce if proven. It's hard to live your daily life with a person you can't deal with, especially with such behaviour that is intolerable. One is allowed for the procedure (Singapore divorce process) once their partner shows unreasonable behaviour.
