Being a Singapore Citizen has many benefits including VISA access on 189 countries, HDB benefits, healthcare and educational advantages, and so much more. Thus, if you have what it takes to be eligible for Singapore citizenship, you might want to grab the opportunity at once. Below is the complete guide on the eligibility and process of becoming a Singapore citizen.

Who are eligible to apply for Singapore citizenship?

Unless you are a child of both Singapore parents and lived in Singapore since birth, you will have to gain your citizenship through an application. Here are the people who are eligible for the ICA Singapore citizenship application:

  • A permanent resident (PR) in Singapore for at least 2 years, and is of majority age of 21 years old and above. In this category, you have to personally apply for citizenship and may include your spouse and children in your application.
  • A permanent resident (PR) in Singapore for at least 2 years, and is married to a Singapore citizen for at least 2 years as well. In this category, your spouse should be the one to apply for your citizenship to sponsor your application.
  • A child or those below 21 years of age, conceived in a legal marriage or legally adopted by Singapore citizen parents. The parents must sponsor the child’s application.
  • A student from other countries, residing in Singapore for at least 3 years, and a Singapore permanent resident (PR) for at least one year. He/She must have passed at least one national examination or integrated program.
  • An aged parent of a Singapore permanent resident (PR) or a Singapore citizen.

Where to Find the List of Document Requirements?

There are 3 categories for Singapore Citizenship, child, adult, and aged parent. You can find the explanatory notes for each category on the ICA website, where the checklist for needed documents per category is posted.
