Behaviour matters for every child. It is an onset facet that will set on how they will act and conduct towards other people with or without your watchful eye as a parent. Children will need to develop a good sense of understanding about behaving appropriately with a guideline by setting rules.

While setting a limit does not seem to answer how to motivate children or inspire them to do something remarkable, having clear rules will help them develop positive behaviour. Behaviour is almost everything needed to encourage your child to achieve success and develop positive self-acceptance and esteem. Here are tips for setting rules or limits for your child:

Have consistency with your limits.

If you plan to establish rules that will help create positive behaviour for your child, you need to stay consistent and firm to these limitations. Most parenting tips in Singapore will tell you that consistency is key to discipline and motivating your child, and the same can be said when setting limitations.

Be clear and specific.

Your rules should be clear and specific, not too broad for your child to understand. Remember that you are setting these firm rules that should help your child understand what is supposed to follow. For example, "sleep early" might be too broad, but "sleep early before 9 pm" should serve as more appropriate and clear.

Pair limits with reasonable consequences.

Don't be afraid to pair your rules with consequences, as long as it is reasonable. While you don't want to act as a strict teacher as if your child is taking writing courses in Singapore, you need to establish authority. Let your child understand that every action has consequences. But be reasonable with your punishment.

Avoid arguments.

Problematic child behaviours cannot be addressed well when shouting, fighting or power struggle occur between child and parent. Hurt feelings can happen, and this can affect your child's self-esteem. For children diagnosed with ADHD, Aspergers or depression, arguments are out of the option. Instead, talk to your child and explain things clearly.
