Thanks to the Open Market Electricity, we were able to switch to another electricity provider in Singapore! This lets us enjoy lower monthly energy bill payments because our provider often provides promotions and discounts on their services. 


When we were planning to live in Singapore, we were worried about energy costs because we heard from friends who first moved there that the electricity tariff in Singapore are quite high if our electricity provider is the SP Group. When we heard we can switch to another electricity supplier, we did not hesitate to move to Singapore. Now, the only problem was to choose the right electricity provider. When I searched about it, it was quite complicated for a first-timer like. Luckily, our friends in Singapore helped us picked a reliable one. They patiently explained to us the pros and cons of each top provider in Singapore.


What we learned from them is that we need to select first from various energy price plans: fixed price plan, discount off regulated tariff and non-standard. We chose one and based on our decisions using an OEM Comparison Tool. We found this particular electricity provider to be the most affordable 2-years plan so we decided to select this one. Plus, we read some blogs about them, and their ratings are quite high from most reviews. 


Aside from the affordable plans, here are some of the things that we thought are the good points of this electricity provider: 


  1. Fixed-Rate Plan

I’ve mentioned that we got a 2-year plan before because we have been reading before the news about the continuous increase in electricity tariff in Singapore. We thought we would be able to save more if we chose one of the fixed-rate plans because in case the tariff did increase, we will still stick on the price that was stated on the fixed-rate plan that we availed. The price is much cheaper than the regulated tariff of SP Group. With this, we can now better budget our monthly expenses, and we have an extra budget for other important things that are needed for our everyday lives. 

        

  1. Good Customer Service

Power outages rarely occur in our house, but if it does happen, we don’t really feel anxious nor do we panic. Our electricity provider is easily reachable. Whenever we have to report a blackout incident, we just have to call them, and they would pick up the call ln just a few rings. It just felt reassuring that there is someone who could fix the issues right away. They are truly a reliable electricity provider if I must say. 


What is also great about them is that they have a customer portal. We just have to make an account in their portal and then log in to check our bills. It is very convenient to way to check if we still have balances left to pay, and we can even access a history of our payments. In this way, we can rest assured that all of the previous bills that we paid have been processed. We also check our previous bills to see if we had a high power consumption for a particular month. In this way, we can better manage our budget for the month. 


  1. Easy Payments

We also like how our provider lets us use GIRO or General Interbank Recurring Order for our payments. It removes the hassle of having to go to AXS e-station and kiosks just to pay for our bills. We don’t have much time to take care of menial things such as these because my husband and I are too busy with our day jobs. With GIRO, our bills can be paid through Internet Banking. It will deduct the money deposited in our bank account to pay for our monthly bills. 


Plus, GIRO promotes paperless and cashless payments. This means that it would be safer if we could do the payments online because we don’t have to bring out and carry cash on public places. Another benefit of GIRO is that there wouldn’t be bills stacked on our tables. It is such a hassle to receive hardcopy bills because we often misplace it, and if this happens, then we would forget that there is an electricity bill that we need to pay. As a result, we have to pay for penalty charges before. 


  1. Fast Processing

Since we just need to switch an electricity provider at home, our application was processed in as fast as 2 weeks! This was very favourable to us because we didn’’t have to continue paying for the expensive energy costs from the SP Group when we moved to Singapore!
