Living in Singapore has many benefits, from quality education to a stable economy. However, there is one thing that I hated the most about living here is that dengue is prevalent. Here in our neighbourhood, it is common to hear that someone got infected with dengue. Some were even used to the threat of it. Well, for me, it’s my biggest fear.

I was never complacent about this situation. So, I researched how to get rid of flies on Google and saw that a pest control company could help lessen the dengue cluster in our neighbourhood. After that, I immediately called them and asked for a site inspection. Since then, I’ve been at peace that I was protected from dengue. Hence, here’s how I avoided dengue in Singapore.

How I Avoided Dengue

First, I knew that it was my responsibility to protect myself from dengue, so I took some extra precautions. Luckily, preventing dengue is easier to manage, but a dengue cluster in Singapore is harder to handle. So, I let the pest control company deal with the dengue cluster. However, I still have the power to avoid dengue as an individual by following these tips:

  • Cover stagnant water
  • Apply repellent lotion
  • Wear protective clothing
  • Cleaning house regularly
  • Dispose of water and food properly

These small ways may have a less significant effect on the whole neighbourhood, but still, I managed to protect myself from dengue and set a good example to my neighbours. Now, moving to a pest control site visit, read the next section on what you should expect from a pest control company.

Things to Expect From a Pest Control Team

  1. Amiable Introduction

When the pest control arrived in my neighbourhood, I noticed that they were wearing protective clothing that made them look professional. Since they were going in and out of the house, there was a brief and short professional introduction. I could say that they were very friendly and approachable. All my questions about 'how to get rid of flies' and a dengue cluster in Singapore were answered.

Within the short introduction, I felt more relaxed knowing that they would do the job properly. Also, we had a friendly atmosphere, so I was comfortable with them roaming around my house.

  1. Site Inspection

After the friendly introduction, they started inspecting the entryways of my house. It includes windows, doors, cracks and hidden crevasse. This way, they will know where mosquitoes, flies, or mice are entering. As a result, it would be easier for them to focus on specific areas.

They also check the water and food storage to know if it was a breeding area for unwanted pests at home. Luckily, the pest control team told me that my house was in good condition, so I didn’t have to worry about pests or insects sneaking inside my home.

  1. Check Moist Area

Aside from the site inspection, they also checked moist areas that were also crucial when preventing a dengue cluster in Singapore. A moist area is more likely to tempt pests to breed rather than a dry area. The pest control team used flashlights to check hidden or hard to reach areas. Also, they had measuring equipment called moisture metre to find areas that may be prone to moisture.

  1. Preventive Action

The next step was preventive action. Of course, after the inspection, the pest control team advised me to do preventive actions. It was easier on how to get rid of flies with professionals. First, they told me to close entry points to prevent further pests invasion. After that, they sprayed chemicals that would deter flies, mosquitoes, mice and other pests.

They also told me to practice sanitation and housekeeping to eliminate potential food and water sources. As a result, it would reduce pest infestation.

  1. Report and Documentation

At this stage, the pest control team had all of the necessary information to give reports and proper documentation. To prevent a dengue cluster in our neighbourhood, the pest control team had a thirty-minute evaluation before giving us the full report. As a result, they gave professional advice on how to get rid of flies.

Additionally, they also helped give information about other pests such as mice, bed bugs and cockroaches. With a proper report, they helped us identify which problem to focus on and avoid the spread of a dengue cluster in Singapore.
